Bernadette Wagner

Level 1 Teacher - Regina

I am an author, editor, and community-based educator who loves working with words and language, spending time in Nature and my urban garden, as well as teaching and sharing what I’ve learned.

Growing up on a small family farm on Treaty 4 territory, the traditional lands of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation, instilled in me a deep reverence for land and all its beings. With church at the centre of our community life, I learned to pray.

In my mid-twenties, I left the church, turned my life to social justice, and discovered a passion for poetry. I missed the community of song, of voices joined together, and found myself at a six-day creative arts retreat for women in the Qu’Appelle Valley. While singing in circle, my heart cracked open, tears flowed, and spirit came forward.

Soon, I saw poetry as prayer. And, while studying the craft, I also learned to use breathwork and meditation as anchors for writing. In 2003, my formal meditation practice began in a Healing through Insight Meditation class and loved how strands of my life began weaving me into a new whole.

After a decade of practice, I sensed there was more to meditation. Shortly after the publication of my first poetry collection in 2010 I attended a Level 1 Training In Power class. Standing in my own power, in who I really am, has been the gift this spiritual work has given me. I’m so happy to be able to share this system of healing and meditation with the world.
